What is Cathinons?

Cathinons are a class of organic compounds belonging to the phenylethylamine family and are derived from the natural alkaloid cathinon, which occurs in the leaves of the khat plant (Catha edulis). They are also known as beta-keto amphetamines and have some structural resemblance to amphetamines and other stimulants.

Cathinons Side Effects

Cathinones have a stimulating effect on the central nervous system and are often used as recreational drugs due to their euphoric and energetic effects. They work by stimulating the release of certain neurotransmitters. Examples of these neurotransmitters are dopamine, noradrenaline and serotonin. Stimulating these neurotransmitters leads to increased alertness, energy and a reduced feeling of fatigue.

  1. Feelings of euphoria that last for one to two hours
  2. Discussion of serious issues and increased irritability
  3. Very active imagination
  4. Depression
  5. Irritability, loss of appetite and insomnia

Type of Cathinons

There are many types of cathinones, including methcathinone, mephedron and 4-fluoroamphetamine (4-FA). Cathinons bear some resemblance to other stimulants such as cocaine and amphetamines.

chemical properties of cathinones Cathinones are a class of organic compounds belonging to the phenylethylamine family. Cathinones are derived from the natural alkaloid cathinone that occurs in the leaves of the khat plant (Catha edulis). Cathinons have a general chemical formula of C9H11NO and show some structural similarity to amphetamines and other stimulants. The main chemical properties of cathinones are their lipophilic character and their stimulating effect on the central nervous system. The lipophilic nature of a product means that it dissolves easily in fats and lipids and has a low affinity for water and polar solvents. This can be important for the pharmacokinetics of the drug, such as distribution and half-life in the body. These compounds also have a high affinity for fats and lipids and stimulate the release of neurotransmitters such as: dopamine, noradrenaline and serotonin. As a result, they have a stimulating effect on the central nervous system. Cathinons can be synthesized by various chemical reactions, including the reduction of cathinone or the acylization of phenylpropanolamine. They are generally soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and acetone, but insoluble in water. What is Cathinons
